You couldn’t make this up!

Polona Florijančič is a female Slovenian student studying Human Rights Law at Brunel University in London. Kahina Bakhti is her Swedish friend and fellow student.

Both were on a study trip to Beijing China. So as on the anniversary of the election Frauds in Iran they decide to hold a protest outside the Iranian Embassy

Together they simply held a placard that said in English ‘Free Iran, Say NO to Theocracy’.

Not surprisingly the Iranian called the Chinese police to arrest the protesters.

After processing what the police called an excessive amount of paper work and keeping them overnight, the police bought them a KFC and released them in the morning.

Now I don’t know about you but all this strikes me as both a little bit foolhardy and a little bit ballsy. While slightly pointless, I suppose it’s nice to know people will put themselves on the line for what they believe.

For my part, I was prepared to hold out and not get a UK Identity Card even if they were made compulsory. Then what do the Conservative/Liberal Government go and do, but cancel the ID plans. Inconsiderate is what I call it!

For real heroism, I found the following clip on You Tube about the 1989 Tiananmen Square Protests

Even almost 20 years later it still makes me amazed that people will do such a thing for their beliefs

Oh! In case you didn’t know. A Theocracy is a form of government in which a god or deity is recognized as the state’s supreme civil ruler, or in a higher sense, a form of government in which a state is governed by immediate divine guidance or by officials who are regarded as divinely guided
